Pororo is a South Korean TV show that first came out in 2003. The company Porchlight Entertainment wanted an aquatic animal character for a show and tasked its employees with coming up with ideas. Choi Sang-hyun, one of the artists, came up with the idea of the penguin character Pororo after visiting a zoo and seeing which animals kids loved most.
